4 Tips for School Shopping On a Budget
Posted September 2, 2015 by Eric Tiffany in Uncategorized
Often times, parents have a tendency to splurge on their children’s school supplies. With commercials advertising the greatest and latest products, it’s difficult not to. We always want what’s best for our children and it is important to make sure your child has everything that they need, but it is also important to be mindful of your budget in the process.
Here are 4 tips for saving money on school supplies.
1.) Do an Inventory
Before you leave the house, you should do a quick inventory on what your child already has left over from years’ past. Don’t be afraid to reuse perfectly good supplies, such as notebooks, pens and pencils. You may be surprised at what you find!
2.) Make a List and Stick To It
An easy way to lose sight of your budget is to not devise a plan. Making a list will also teach your children how to separate and prioritize their wants from their needs.
3.) Check Out Sales
Most retailers have back to school and Labor Day sales. You may want to inquire with your local retailer before heading out the door. Opting for less expensive brands when shopping for supplies and clothes can also pay dividends.
4.) Take Advantage of Free Supplies
Many community agencies and consignment stores offer free school supplies to children. Don’t be afraid to take advantage of these. One person’s trash could be another kid’s treasure.
